Joe Biden's chief of staff said that the Trump administration is not planning to distribute Covid-19 vaccine in the final months of his term.
"The vaccine delivery process, especially to the general community, aside from nursing homes and hospitals, did not really exist when we entered the White House," said new Chief of Staff Ron Klain on the program.
Biden, who took office on Jan. 20, promised a fierce fight against the pandemic that killed more than 400,000 people in the US under Trump.
Biden plans to work with state and local governments to establish vaccination sites at convention centers, stadiums and gyms.
The Trump administration has set a target of injecting 20 million people before the end of 2020. However, it is not until January 23 that the US has achieved that goal.
"We have seen this problem across the country, when millions of doses were allocated but only about half of them were injected," Klain said.
In terms of the number of people vaccinated per 100 people, the US ranks 5th in the world with 6.2.
