A small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) delivered the package to the Henry Jackson submarine during the test of a new US naval resupply form.

The test of using a small UAV to resupply the nuclear submarine USS Henry M. Jackson took place in the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands on October 19.

"The ongoing supply operations will help the fleet maintain a presence at all times," the US Navy said when posting photos of the test.

The US Navy did not provide details on the package that the 4-rotor UAV passed to the submarine sailor Henry M. Jackson.

Drive editor Joseph Trevithick says UAVs can deliver "small but important packages" such as medicine, emergency meals or similarly sized merchandise.

The US Navy in 2019 tried to use helicopters to transfer a storage device containing information from one warship to another, a way that could be used when the group of ships did not transmit via radio to keep confidential or compromised.

"Using small UAVs for vertical takeoffs with increased range and payload capacity will help the military expand the applicability of the idea.
