"The Ministry of Finance has identified 10 military officials, both in office and retired, responsible for the February 1, 2021 coup or related to the Myanmar military government," the US Treasury Department said.

In the new list of US sanctions, General Min Aung Hlaing, his deputy, Soe Win, and four other members of the State Management Council of Myanmar.

The move will prevent Myanmar generals from accessing more than a billion dollars in government funds in the US.

In another statement, the White House called on Myanmar to "immediately return power to the legally elected government" in Myanmar, end the state of emergency, release all arrested and secure.

The military accused of cheating in the Myanmar general election late last year with the victory of the National Coalition for Democracy (NLD) party of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Myanmar's military generals asserted their actions were legitimate and invoked a constitutional provision that allows the military to remain in contact during times of emergency.

Finance Minister Janet Yellen said the US is "ready to take additional action" if the Myanmar military does not change.
