Republican Senator Mitt Romney said that President Trump has always had "a blind spot" in matters related to Russia.
US officials and researchers believe at least six government agencies since March have been subjected to data attacks and thousands of companies in the country were infected with malware in a cyberattack campaign.
The US Department of Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security (CISA) said on December 17 that many government agencies, essential infrastructure and private organizations have been targeted by "the threat agent.
Commenting on the incident, Sen. Romney said the cyber attack against US government agencies has created "extraordinary harm" but President Donald Trump always has "a blind spot" when referring to Russia.
"We have realized that the President has a blind spot when it comes to Russia," he said.
Trump admitted only to the cyber attacks on December 19, almost a week after Reuters reported.
The revelations of the cyber attack come at a time when the US government is busy with the transfer of presidential power and has had many difficulties in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that cyber attacks may continue and authorities have not determined its scope, Democratic Senator Mark Warner, in an interview with ABC channel.
Both Warner and Romney think that the US needs to react to the incident.
