The car maker PSA is taking 38 foreign employees and their families out of a strange outbreak of pneumonia in Hubei province, China.
The evacuation of PSA staff "is underway, in full cooperation with the Chinese authorities and the French Consulate General in China," PSA said January 25.
Those included in the evacuation plan included 38 PSA employees working in the Wuhan area with their families. They will be isolated in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, about 300 km from Wuhan, before being taken back to their homeland.
The announcement of PSA, the owner of Peugeot and Citroen brands, was made amid growing concerns about more people infected with the corona virus in France.
On January 24, French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn confirmed the first three people infected with Corona virus in the country. The patients are a couple of over 30 years old and a 48 year old man, both from China, "who are going well." French officials say they are investigating three cases of virus infection, making sure they are closely monitored to prevent the virus from spreading. In Bordeaux, about 10-15 people who have contacted this person "shared information". Activities to welcome the Lunar New Year on January 26 were delayed to prevent outbreaks.
France plans to establish a medical group, with several dozen members, at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, from January 26.
So far China has confirmed 56 deaths, nearly 2,000 cases of coronary virus infection. Outside of China, the virus has appeared in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Singapore, Nepal, France, Canada and Vietnam. British officials are trying to find some 2,000 people who have recently flown from Wuhan to the country. The US government also plans to bring diplomats and citizens to leave Wuhan today.
