According to Iran's TASnim news agency, the British ambassador and some were arrested for allegedly organizing, provoking and directing protests. It is not clear which force arrested Mr. Macaire.
"I was detained half an hour after leaving the ceremony. It was illegal to arrest diplomats in any country. I saw Foreign Minister Dominic Raab's statement. Thank you for your goodwill message." , British Ambassador adds.
The Foreign Ministry reacted angrily to the ambassadors' arrest, calling it a "flagrant violation of international law". The United States also requires Iran to formally apologize to the United Kingdom and respect the rights of all diplomats.
The Iranian government yesterday admitted to accidentally shooting down a flight bearing the number PS752 of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). The soldiers mistook the aircraft as a "hostile target" due to its shape, altitude and aircraft suddenly turning toward a military base. This recognition shocked many Iranians and made them angry.
