Taiwan is frustrated by the WHO's high risk of nCoV infection along with mainland China and calls on the organization not to "kidnap" Beijing.
"Taiwan is not ruled by China, so it certainly cannot be considered an infected area," Taiwan's foreign affairs spokesman Joanne Ou told a news conference today. "We call on the World Health Organization (WHO) to be professional and neutral: Get rid of China's ridiculous claims, don't be kidnapped by China," Ou said.
The statement was made by Ms. Ou when the island recorded 22 cases of nCoV infection, compared with more than 72,400 cases in mainland China. WHO rated the island as "very high risk" under the "One China" policy, with Taiwan being part of China.
The Taiwanese government criticized mainland China for arguing that Beijing is pressing to eliminate the island's WHO membership. China has always considered Taiwan a part of its territory waiting for reunification, including by force if necessary.
President Xi Jinping said that Taiwan's return to China under the "one country, two regime" model, similar to Hong Kong and Macau, is the best way to protect the rights and interests of people. island people. Meanwhile, Thai Anh Van, who came to power in Taiwan in mid-2016, did not recognize the "One China" policy.
Countries including El Salvador, Mongolia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu have imposed restrictions on travel to Taiwan. The island's largest airline, China Airlines, had to suspend all flights to and from Italy, after it decided to stop all aviation activities with China last month.
Ms Ou announced that Taiwan would continue to call Italy to resume flights, emphasizing that the WHO should correct the "inappropriate information" assigned to Taiwan. Last week, the Philippines lifted its ban on travelers from Taiwan.
The Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Wuhan from December 2019, appearing in 27 countries and territories. Worldwide, 73,332 cases and 1,873 people died from the disease. Five deaths were recorded outside mainland China in Japan, Hong Kong, France, the Philippines and Taiwan.
