A Russian plane carrying 100 people today landed on their tummy in the north of the country, but there were no casualties.
Low-cost Russian airline Utair crashed the landing gear while landing at Usinsk airport in the Komi area. Images posted online show the plane lying on its stomach on a snow-covered runway as passengers rush to evacuate.
None of the 94 passengers and 6 crew members were seriously injured, but one passenger had to seek medical assistance.
"Thanks to professional and quick action, the crew was able to keep the plane on the runway until it stopped completely," Utair said in a statement. The airline praised the "experienced" crew and added that the captain had over 6,900 flight hours.
Komi regional leader Sergei Gaplikov said the incident at Usinsk airport was "unacceptable". "Thank God no one was seriously injured," he said.
