Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said Moscow did not expect "anything good" from the US President-elect, accusing the Biden administration of "hating Russia".
"We certainly did not expect anything good. And it would be strange to expect the good from the group in which many of them have built up a career in Russia hating syndrome and have defamed my country.
The statement comes days after Washington accused Russian hackers of carrying out a massive cyberattack against US government agencies.
Deputy Minister Ryabkov said that Moscow should shift to a "comprehensive containment" approach in relations with the US, maintaining "selective dialogue" on topics that benefit Russia.
Ryabkov added that if the US continues to see Russia as a "strategic rival" then Moscow will "treat them in a similar manner".
Speaking at a press conference last five weeks, President Vladimir Puitn said that Russia-US relations have become "hostage" to American politics and he hopes some of the problems that exist "will be resolved.
Biden is expected to take a tougher stance towards Russia than President Trump.
Russia-US relations have been strained for many years on many issues, such as accusing Russia of meddling in the US presidential election.
