NPR reporters are not allowed to take part in Secretary Pompeo's visit after a tense discussion between him and another correspondent earlier.

"Reporter Michele Kelemen was excluded from Pompeo's Foreign Minister's departure from Britain on January 29 to Ukraine and other countries. We can only say that the US State Department is retaliating on Public Radio. National (NPR), "the State Department Reporters Association said in a statement today.

Earlier, in an interview on January 24, another NPR correspondent, Mary Louise Kelly, repeatedly mentioned Pompeo about Ukraine, the focus of the trial considering the dismissal of US President Donald Trump. Kelly said after the interview, she was invited by a staff member to Pompeo's private living room and was not allowed to bring a tape recorder.

"Pompeo waited there and shouted at me for a long period of time equivalent to the interview. Pompeo was unhappy about being questioned about Ukraine and asked me 'do you think Americans are interested in Ukraine?' , then use vulgar words, "Kelly said.

Secretary of State also asked Kelly to point to Ukraine on the map without comment, NPR reporter followed but Pompeo later said she had mistakenly entered Bangladesh.

In a statement on 26 January, Pompeo said that Kelly had lied twice, once setting up an interview about Iran but asking more about Ukraine and once recording the post-interview conversation despite agreeing. Did not do this. The US Secretary of State does not deny the use of vulgar language in private conversations with Kelly.

US State Department Reporter Shaun Tandon asked to reconsider banning Kelemen from traveling on planes with Pompeo.

"Kelemen is an outstanding expert with 20 years of experience in US foreign policy. Journalists who follow the US Department of State are responsible for reporting to the public through questioning the issues of the day." , Tandon said.
