According to Le Courrier Picard, Pilaski that day took his dogs to the forest for a walk, then phoned her husband and said that there were "very scary dogs" near her. The husband left work in Paris and was present at the scene 45 minutes later, where he was helped by a family dog to discover his wife's body.

An autopsy showed the victim died of blood loss after being attacked by dogs, prosecutor Frederic Trinh said, adding that there were some bites after Pilaski died. The forest where the victim was killed is where many dogs were used by hunters to hunt deer.

Trinh said officials were checking 93 dogs, including Pilaski's five dogs, to determine which had attacked the pregnant woman.

Brigitte Bardot, president of the animal welfare fund of the same name, expressed shock upon hearing of the incident and sent a letter requesting French Ecotourism Minister Élisabeth Borne to immediately stop licensing for the hunting season this year. .

However, the French hunting association said that "nothing proves the relationship of the hounds with the woman's death". France currently has over 30,000 hunting dogs. The association claims the dogs "were trained to hunt a specific animal and always obeyed the circumstances".

Police said that Pilaski could be attacked by wild dogs or even her dogs and did not rule out any possibility.
