After the initial delay, the Trump administration in late November began facilitating the transition of power, giving Biden access to news reports despite Trump's continued opposition to election results.

Blinken, 58, began his career at the State Department under Bill Clinton and served as deputy foreign minister in the Obama administration.

Trump called on thousands of supporters to march to Capitol Hill as parliament met on Jan. 6 to confirm the election results.
