A plane crashed and caught fire in Ghazni province, central Afghanistan this afternoon, it is unclear how many people were carrying the plane.
"At about 13h10 (2:40 pm Hanoi time), a plane crashed in Deh Yak district of Ghazni province. The plane caught fire and the villagers tried to put out the fire. We still don't know if this is a military or commercial plane." , Aref Noori, spokesman for Gov. Ghazni, told AFP.
There is no official information on how many people are carrying the aircraft and the number of casualties. Ariana News said the plane carried 83 people while RT reported the plane carried 110 people.
Initially there was information that the plane belonged to the national airline Ariana Afghan Airlines but the airline rejected it.
Accidents involving military aircraft, especially helicopters, are very common in Afghanistan because of inclement weather and high frequency of use.
The last time a civilian plane crashed in Afghanistan was in May 2010, when an old Pamir Airways plane crashed on a ridge 20 km from Kabul in bad weather, causing all six crew members and 38 passengers were killed.
