Nepal agreed to cooperate with China to measure the height of Everest, after scientists thought that the highest mountain in the world was falling.

Many geologists believe that the 7.6 magnitude quake in Nepal in 2015 may have caused the height of Mount Everest to drop by 3 centimeters, while official data recognizes the summit as "the roof of the world". This is 8,848 m high.

The decision to cooperate with China to measure the height of Mount Everest was made after Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Nepal last weekend and held talks with the country's leader.

India was the first country to announce the height of Mount Everest and recognized it as the highest mountain in the world in 1855. Half of Mount Everest is located in Nepal, but the country has never measured them but used them. Data from the Indian Surveying Bureau in 1954.

In 2017, India offered to help Nepal measure the height of Mount Everest, after a devastating earthquake in the Gorkha region of Nepal in 2015.

Many western climbers use the 8,850 m elevation data of Mount Everest as determined by the National Geographic Association and Boston Science Museum in 1999 in a survey using satellite technology to measure. In 2005, Chinese researchers and mountaineers declared the peak height to be 8,844.43 m.
