Hubei Health Committee today announced an additional 116 deaths and 4,823 new cases of corona virus infection.
Hubei Province, the focus of corona pneumonia (Covid-19), had 116 more deaths, bringing the number of deaths in mainland China to 1,483. Hubei also had an additional 4,823 new cases, mainly patients diagnosed clinically, bringing the total number of infected people in the province to 51,986 and in mainland China to 64,627.
The province had 36,719 patients admitted to the hospital, of which 1,685 were in critical condition, and 4,131 were discharged. Particularly in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei and where the virus originated, 3,900 new infections and 88 deaths were recorded.
Worldwide there are 65,209 cases of infection, 1,486 deaths, mainly in mainland China, and 5,954 people cured. Three deaths recorded outside of mainland China were a Wuhan man in the Philippines, a man in Hong Kong and an old lady in her 80s in Japan.
Hubei authorities announced a change in the method of calculating the number of cases since February 13. Accordingly, the cases with clinical manifestations or clinically diagnosed viral infections will be included in the new case data.
This change caused a sharp increase in the number of new infections when the province recorded 14,840 new infections, of which 13,332 were clinically diagnosed and 242 died. A spokesman for the Shanghai Health Commission said the method of diagnosing people with the virus did not change in any Chinese region outside of Hubei.
The Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan since December, has spread to 26 countries and territories. China yesterday announced the resignation of Hubei Chiang Liang party secretary and appointed Shanghai mayor Ung Dung Dung. Mr. Jiang was Hubei's top official who lost his job since the outbreak.
