The Spanish Ministry of Health reported 1,987 new nCoV infections today, bringing the total number of patients to 11,178 with 491 deaths.
The capital Madrid is the most heavily affected, accounting for 43% of nCoV infections. Fernando Simon, director of the Spanish Medical Warning Coordination Center, added that the current number of people recovering is 1,098, equivalent to a 9% recovery rate.
The Covid-19 situation in Spain is the fourth most serious after China, Italy and Iran, with a sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths. After declaring a state of emergency in 15 days from March 14, the Spanish government decided to blockade nationwide, banning traffic on the road.
About 46 million Hispanics stay home except for going to work, buying food, going to pharmacies, hospitals or other emergencies. They have to go alone, except for those who have trouble moving. Most shops must be closed, traffic is limited.
Spain also tightens border controls from today, allowing only citizens and permanent residents, workers working across borders, diplomats and people with force majeure reasons to enter.
Covid-19 has appeared in more than 160 countries and territories around the world, with more than 180,000 cases of nCoV, more than 7,000 deaths and nearly 80,000 people recover. The World Health Organization said on March 13 that Europe was a global epidemic, and warned that the peak could not be predicted.
