Iraq17 rocket fired at Qayyarah base, where US forces are supporting the Iraqi army in wiping out ISIS remnants, but causing no casualties.

"Many rocket fireballs hit Qayyarah Air Base in northern Iraq at 19h45 on November 8. No coalition soldiers were injured, thanking Iraqi security forces for their quick response. ", Colonel Marisa Roberts, the US-led coalition against Islamic State (IS) spokesman, said today.

The bullets seem to have been fired from the jet system located in the nearby city of Mosul. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, nor did the US coalition report any damage to the infrastructure at Qayyarah.

"The coalition came to Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government to defeat the IS militants. We are not afraid of such attacks and will maintain our right to self-defense," Colonel Roberts added.

The US withdrew from Iraq in 2011 but returned in 2014 at Baghdad's request to help fight ISIS. Washington is deploying 5,000 troops at multiple bases in this Middle Eastern country. Diplomatic facilities and bases with US troops have been targeted by several rocket launches.

Many extremist armed groups remain secretive and regularly attack Iraqi government forces, though the country announced its defeat in IS in 2017. Several pro-Iranian militia groups have repeatedly threatened to raid units. The US is stationed here.
