The US, the largest epidemic region in the world, recorded 4,857,793 cases and 158,887 deaths, an increase of 45,799 and 565 cases compared to the previous day.

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Affairs and medical adviser for the White House's anti-Covid-19 committee, on July 28 warned several states, including Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, to hurry.

Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of the task force in response to Covid-19, said the US is entering a new phase in the fight against pandemic when the virus is now much more widespread than the first wave.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predict that by August 22, more than 173,000 Americans will die from Covid-19.

In Brazil, the second largest epidemic in the world, deaths have increased to 94,665 after recording 535 more cases.

The Rio de Janeiro government announced the cancellation of the New Year's Eve celebration, which often attracts millions of people to Copacabana beach, adding that the famous Carnival in February next year could also be canceled.

Brazil reopened international routes from July 30.
