Florida, one of the major epidemic regions in the US, reported more than 502,000 people infected with nCoV, becoming the second state to register more than half a million cases.
The Florida Public Health Agency on August 5 reported an additional 5,409 nCoV infections in the past 24 hours, a significant reduction after new daily infections exceeded 10,000 cases in recent weeks.
However, the decrease in the number of new cases may be due to the suspension of the nCoV test during the impact of tropical storm Isaias.
Florida currently records 7,627 deaths from nCoV, an increase of 225 from the previous day.
Republican Governor Ron DeSantis reopened the Florida economy from May to June, but did not order mandatory masks or recommend new quarantine measures.
The other two major epidemic regions in the US, California and Texas, currently recorded more than 532,000 and more than 480,000 cases, of which more than 9,800 and 7,800 died.
Covid-19 has appeared in more than 210 countries and territories, leaving nearly 19 million people infected and more than 710,000 dead.
