China A 30-year-old woman pleaded for help to help her father on social networking site Sina Weibo yesterday after he attempted to commit suicide due to corona virus infection.

A woman surnamed Zhang from Wuhan City, Hubei Province said her father started having a fever on January 26 and was diagnosed with a lung infection on February 1. Zhang said he tried everything: calling the local authorities, the health department, the virus treatment area and the mayor's hotline, to find his father's hospital bed, but to no avail.

Her father attempted suicide on February 5. "Unable to tolerate more, my father cut off his wrist that night but was saved by my mother," Zhang said, adding that her father had other health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and Parkinson's.

After public pressure, Zhang's father was tested and tested positive for the corona virus. However, that hospital could not accept him because it was already overloaded.

Zhang said she has not missed any hope of finding a bed for her father, from joining the chat group of patients who need help on WeChat to filling out registration forms for patients of the State Council. and the newspaper of Wuhan City.

"I called every phone number I could find but they didn't work out. In the end, I had no choice but to post on Weibo," Zhang said.

She said at first she was hesitant about this decision because her father's condition was not too serious and did not want to attract attention. But now things have changed when her father was one of nearly 17,000 corona virus infections in the city since the outbreak last December.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Hubei Chiang Liang over the weekend pledged to conduct tests on all remaining suspected cases and added that all confirmed or serious cases will be admitted by the hospital.

Wuhan City Party Secretary Ma Quoc Cuong said last night that 1,499 patients confirmed corona virus infection, in serious condition and had not been hospitalized until February 8, were received yesterday afternoon. Wuhan hopes there are no more suspects who are not tested today.

The city government last week began reviewing online help and setting up an all-day hotline. Weibo estimated that the topic "patients with pneumonia for help" had more than 1,600 posts, 1.38 million views and 487,000 followers.

Woman surnamed Yuan, 33, said she posted on Weibo on February 9 to find ways to help her parents. Her mother had just been diagnosed with corona virus while her father had acute pneumonia. Two people were hospitalized yesterday. "I tried too many ways and now I don't know how to get help," Yuan said.

But for Zhang, only miracles could help her father, who was still waiting for his hospital bed. "Most hospitals only accept serious illnesses. I don't think my father can be treated," Zhang said.
