Malaysia is forced to wear a mask in public from 1/8 and those who do not comply can be fined more than 200 USD.
Malaysian officials today issued regulations to wear masks in public places to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.
Malaysia Health Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah said it was mandatory to wear a mask in public, and said the long-term goal was to make people wear a mask when leaving the house.
The chairman of the Malaysian Medical Union Association, Dr. Raj Kumar Maharajah, said wearing a mask helps maintain the infection rate below 1%, meaning that it is possible to minimize the chance that an infected person can spread the disease to others.
"Wearing a mask can prevent a second wave of Covid-19," Maharajah said.
When Covid-19 broke out in Malaysia in March, masks were only mandatory for health-care workers and people with symptoms of Covid-19.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that people wear masks in public places where there is a possibility of infecting the community and when spacing cannot be used.
Malaysians also support the regulation of wearing masks more than citizens in some countries, including the United States.
More than 210 countries and territories appeared Covid-19 after the outbreak in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, leaving more than 17.8 million infected and more than 684,000 dead.
