Lebanese Justice Minister Najem is the third government official to resign after an explosion that killed at least 220 people in the port of Beirut.

Lebanese Justice Minister Marie Claude Najem submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Hassan Diab this morning, just hours before the Lebanese government held a meeting to discuss the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4.

The decision was made after two days of protests in the capital Beirut, in which many people criticized and questioned her responsibility.

The Lebanese capital Beirut on August 4 was shaken after a warehouse of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded, killing at least 220 people, injuring more than 6,000, missing 110, and about 300,000 homeless.

Residents accused the government of poor management and neglect of responsibility for leaving ammonium nitrate depots in the port of Beirut without safety measures for the past six years.

Protesters protesting the government on August 8 stormed the headquarters of several ministries and declared the State Department is now "the head office of the revolution", flying a flag with a fist that has become a symbol of the demonstrations.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun admitted that the country's political system was "paralyzed" and in need of "reconsideration" after the explosion.
