A closed meeting was subsequently held to "examine the strategic task of important units in dealing with the military situation around the Korean peninsula and potential, significant military threats."

The meetings also approved the nation's "important ammunition production plan".

Kim Jong-un leader signed the decree to implement the tasks set out in the meeting.

However, the KCNA did not mention specific measures related to North Korea's goal of increasing war deterrence.

The meeting on July 18 marked the first appearance of Kim Jong-un in nearly two weeks, after he visited the Solar Palace on the 26th anniversary of the death of the late Korean President Kim Nhat Thanh.
