Sileri said he immediately complied with MOH regulations, adding that his wife and children were fine. "Although we live in the same house, we have separate rooms," Sileri said.

He is one of many high-ranking Italian officials infected with nCoV, including Nicola Zingaretti, the leader of the Democratic Party and President of Lazio; Alberto Cirio, president of the Piedmont region; Chief of Staff Salvatore Farina and Deputy Minister of Education Anna Ascani.

Italy is the second largest outbreak in the world after mainland China and the largest in Europe, with more than 21,000 cases and more than 1,400 deaths. The Italian National Institutes of Health (ISS) said the death rate in this country is about 6%, the average age of death of patients is about 80 years old.
