The Iranian supreme leader praised the medical staff for their "spirit of sacrifice".

Iran has been struggling with Covid-19 since the first recorded case in February.

The second wave caused Iranian authorities to issue a mandatory order to wear masks in closed public spaces and allow the most affected provinces to re-impose restrictive measures.

Iran has closed schools, canceled public events and banned travel among its 31 provinces since March, however, the government gradually removed restrictive measures from April to curb damage.
