Newly elected Senator Fatemeh Rahbar died after being infected with nCoV, the first Iranian female politician to die of Covid-19.

Fatemeh Rahbar, a parliamentarian representing the people of Tehran, on March 6 was in critical condition and had to use ventilators when health deteriorated due to nCoV infection. The doctors worked hard but she died later that same day.

Rahbar was a member of parliament from 2004 to 2016 and recently re-elected to Iran's parliament. She was the first Iranian female politician to die of Covid-19.

Covid-19 appeared in 97 countries and territories after its inauguration in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province of China in December 2019. The epidemic has infected more than 102,000 people, nearly 3,500 died. Iran currently records nearly 4,800 cases, including 124 deaths.

Many Iranian officials have died from nCoV, including diplomat Hossein Sheikholeslam, 68, and Mr. Mohammad Mirmohammadi, 71, a member of the advisory board of the supreme spiritual leader. Many senior Iranian officials are also infected with nCoV, including Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar and Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi.

All schools in Iran will be closed until March 20. Iran also released more than 54,000 prisoners with negative nCoV test results, those who have long prison terms and are considered to be dangerous to the non-released community.

Neighboring countries and more distant countries such as Canada and the United States recorded cases of nCoV infection related to Iran. China also recorded 28 cases of nCoV related to Iran.
