Iranian Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi became infected with the corona virus when the Covid-19 outbreak broke out in the country.
"Testing coronavirus with Harirchi, deputy health minister on the front line against the epidemic, gave positive results," Alireza Vahabzadeh, media adviser to Iran's Health Minister, announced on Twitter today.
Mr Harirchi occasionally coughed and seemed to sweat at a press conference yesterday with government spokesman Ali Rabiei. At the event, he dismissed the information that a parliamentarian said that 50 Iranians had died of nCoV in Qom City, claiming he would "resign" if this number was true.
In a video broadcast on national television later, Mr. Harirchi confirmed that he was infected with nCoV.
"I had a fever last night and the preliminary test result was positive around midnight," Harirchi said with a stiff face. "I isolated myself. A few minutes ago, I was told that the result of my test was the final result and I was starting to take the medicine."
Harirchi expressed his belief that Iran "will definitely win this virus in the next few weeks" but warns people to be cautious because "the virus does not leave anyone alone and infect anyone".
After news of Harirchi's acquisition of Covid-19, government spokesman Rabiei, who stood next to him at a press conference yesterday, still appeared at another press conference with the Minister of Industry and Iranian officials.
Mahmoud Sadeghi, a prominent politician of this country, also announced positive for nCoV.
"My corona virus test result was positive. I sent this message but I did not have much hope of survival," Sadeghi said on Twitter. He took advantage of this opportunity to call on the Iranian judiciary to pardon detainees on political and security charges so they can "overcome the disease with their families".
Iran today recorded three more deaths and 34 new corona virus infections, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 16 and the number of cases being 95. This is a country with a high Covid-19 mortality rate. most outside of China.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, most cases outside of Qom city have also been recent visits to the holy city. Kianoush Jahanpour spokesman said 16 new cases of nCoV were confirmed in Qom, nine in Tehran, two in Alborz, Gilan and Mazandaran. The virus seems to be spreading to new areas in Iran, as the provinces of Fars and Khorasan Razavi as well as Qeshm Island both recorded a case.
Despite being the epidemic of Iran, Qom has not been cordoned off. Health Minister Saeed Namaki defended the decision, saying isolation was an "old measure".
"We disagree with quarantining cities because we believe that people are conscious enough to avoid going from infected cities to other places," he said.
Covid-19 erupted amid Iran's economy hit hard by U.S. sanctions, after the Trump administration withdrew from its nuclear deal with Iran and major powers in 2018. the more you fall into isolation. Many countries stopped flying to an Islamic state after confirmed nCoV cases from Iran were confirmed in Canada, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and Iraq. The Covid-19 outbreak has been reported in 35 countries and territories after the outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The world currently records more than 80,000 cases, more than 2,700 deaths, mostly in mainland China.
