Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has decided not to lift the ban on talks with the US "enemy" in today's statement.

"One way to prevent US political intervention is to ban all dialogue with the US. That means Iran will not succumb to pressure from the United States," Iranian state media said today. Supreme Khamenei said. "Those who believe that negotiating with the enemy will help solve our problems are 100% wrong."

Relations between Washington and Tehran were in crisis after President Donald Trump last year withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions on the country. Supreme leader Khamenei banned the holding of talks with the United States until the United States returned to the nuclear deal and lifted all sanctions.

"The US has not changed since decades ago ... They continue to engage in aggressive and vicious acts," Mr. Khamenei said. "Iran has a strong and iron will. We will not let the US return to Iran."

Allies with Washington in Europe also oppose the Trump administration's decision to abandon the Iran nuclear deal. Tehran has responded to sanctions from Washington by reducing its commitment to the nuclear deal and warning there will be further steps in November.
