Iranian government spokesman called the oil tanker attack on 11/10 a "cowardly" behavior and threatened to respond when finding the truth.

"Iran is in a hurry to avoid, we will consider the matter carefully and find out the truth. The people behind this cowardly attack will receive the appropriate response, but we will wait until the whole sentence. "It was clear," IRNA news agency quoted government spokesman Ali Rabei as saying today.

A tanker owned by the Iranian National Oil Company (NIOC) was attacked on October 11 while in waters about 100 km west of the Arabian port of Jeddah. The explosion damaged the hull and two tanks, causing oil spills in the Red Sea. The National Iranian Oil Company (NITC) said the ship hit by the missile was Sabiti while Iranian state television identified the tanker being attacked as Sinopa.

Fars News of Iran said Tehran was conducting an investigation, calling it a "terrorist act".

The US Navy 5 Fleet, which is in charge of operations in the Middle East, announced it had obtained information about the attack but did not comment further. Saudi Arabia has also not responded.

The incident comes amid tensions in the Gulf region that remain high after a drone attack and cruise missiles targeting two key Saudi oil plants. The US and its many allies accuse Iran of being behind the raid, while Tehran has denied it.
