Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is being treated at the intensive care unit after being positive for nCoV.
Secretary of State Pratikno on March 14 announced in Jakarta that Sumadi was being treated at an army hospital in the capital. A hospital spokesman said Sumadi was having trouble breathing but her condition was improving.
Sumadi participated in an effort to deal with Covid-19, mainly evacuating Indonesians from the epidemic zone. President Joko Widodo called on other ministers to get tested.
Indonesia first detected nCoV infection on 2 March. The country has so far recorded 96 cases of nCoV, 5 deaths and 8 recovered. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan ordered the closure of schools and tourist attractions of the city such as the Ragunan zoo and Ancol beach from next week. He emphasized that Jakarta is not blocked but urged people to raise their awareness of epidemic prevention, to avoid gathering or interacting with many people.
The city of Solo in Central Java this weekend also began closing schools and tourist attractions after a patient died in the area.
Many officials around the world have been infected with nCoV, including the Iranian Vice President, Iran's Deputy Health Minister, and Australia's Interior Minister. The wife of the Canadian Prime Minister and the wife of the Spanish Prime Minister are also positive for the virus.
Covid-19 appears in 152 countries and territories, causing more than 156,000 people infected, more than 5,800 deaths and about 76,000 recover.
