Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam announced measures to restrict traffic with people from China to prevent acute pneumonia.

Ms. Lam today said it would sharply cut the number of visitors to Hong Kong from China in an effort to control the spread of the nCoV virus. Measures to restrict people from the mainland, including reducing flights to half, closing rail and ferry services, were introduced at midnight on January 30.

The government will also close some border gates between Hong Kong and the mainland, increasing the number of checkpoints to prevent disease. From the mainland, Beijing will stop issuing visas to mainland residents, accounting for up to 50% of visitors to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's new announcement comes after health workers, epidemiologists and pro-Beijing politicians increased pressure on the authorities, demanding strict control of acute pneumonia. .

Previously, Hong Kong had applied a series of measures such as refusing entry to people from areas with nCoV virus, closing entertainment facilities, extending school holidays, allowing public organization of work at home.

The outbreak of this nCoV virus broke out in early January 2020 in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. The number of deaths in China amounted to 106, the number of cases more than 4,500. The epidemic has now spread to Thailand, Japan, Korea, USA, Singapore, Nepal, France, Canada and Vietnam.
