The TGV train derailed after a section of the embankment broke down on a railroad near the city of Strasbourg, driving a train seriously injured and 21 people slightly injured.
The incident happened this afternoon when the TGV high-speed train carrying 348 passengers ran at a speed of 270 km / h in the area about 30 km from Strasbourg, eastern France. A landslide has caused many blocks of land to cover the tracks, causing the locomotive to derail behind the bend.
Local officials said the train driver was seriously injured in the chest, taken by helicopter to emergency in a critical condition but will pass. 21 people were slightly injured and could be treated locally. Nearly 100 rescuers and dozens of fire trucks were deployed to the site of the incident.
The scene image shows the train intact, but the tractor is tilted to one side, while the four rear cars also slip off the tracks. "Despite rushing off the track, the train was not tilted. The safety system worked perfectly," said French national railway firm SNCF.
