South Korea Mayor Park Won-soon was found north of Seoul, hours after he was reported missing.
Police said the body of Mayor Park Won-soon, 64, was found early on July 10 (on the night of July 9, Hanoi time) near the gate of the ancient city of Sukjeongmun in the Bugak mountain area.
According to initial estimates, Mr. Park may have committed suicide.
The US media initially said that Mr. Park had not been involved in a recent political scandal, but SBS and MBC of South Korea later reported that one of Park's secretaries filed a complaint to the police on the evening of August 8.
The secretary told investigators that several other female employees at Seoul City Hall were also sexually harassed by Mr. Park.
Both the Seoul police and Mr. Park's office said they could not confirm the information.
Earlier, the police organized a search after Mr. Park's daughter on the afternoon of 9/7 informed her father to leave a voice message as a goodbye and leave home about 4-5 hours.
More than 770 police officers, three drones, 4 service dogs, and an ambulance and fire engine were mobilized in the search.
Mr. Park, a long-time civil activist and human rights lawyer, is married to Ms. Kang Nan-hee and has two children, one boy and one girl.
During the early part of his term, Mr. Park considered himself a tough opponent of former President Park Geun-hye.
