Former Bolivian President Evo Morales left Mexico to Cuba for a checkup, according to a former official in his administration.
"Mr. Evo Morales is in Cuba because of an examination with the Cuban medical team who treated him in Bolivia," Gabriela Montano, a former health minister under the government of Morales, told Reuters on 7 December.
A spokesman for Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard wrote on Twitter that Morales left Mexico for Cuba on the morning of December 6. "He informed us this was a short trip," the spokesman wrote.
Morales resigned on November 10 after weeks of violent protests over accusing him of cheating election results. A number of top Bolivian officials have also left their posts.
