This is lower than the 24.6 million Americans who watched the nomination speech of former vice president Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate at the Democratic National Congress last week.
The audience for Trump's speech this year was also down 25% from the 32.2 million who watched Mr. Trump's speech in 2016 when he received the Republican nomination in his first campaign.
This decline in viewership partly reflects the decline in US television viewership in recent years and the fact that both party congresses this year are held largely online because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
