Researchers think the new epidemic cluster in China may not be as serious as the one in Wuhan, when Beijing officials implemented early controls.
On June 16, Beijing recorded 106 cases of nCoV infection related to the new outbreak of Tan Phat Dia, the largest food wholesale market in Asia.
"I don't worry much about the new outbreak in Beijing, compared to the Wuhan outbreak, because China is actively monitoring developments," said Dr. Timothy Brewer, epidemiologist, University of California, Los Angeles.
During the first outbreak of Covid-19 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, late last year, Chinese officials were accused by many countries of hiding and failing to publish early, causing Covid-19 to quickly spread globally, causing damage.
However, when there were signs of a new outbreak in early June, Beijing quickly implemented control measures.
Dr. Brewer said that China is likely to control the new epidemic cluster in Beijing.
Agreeing with this idea, Professor Hajo Zeeb, Leibniz Institute of Epidemiology and Epidemiology Research (BIPS), Germany, said that China is in good control of health and social systems, ensuring isolation for
"China will use all means to control the new outbreak. Hopefully tracing suspected cases will be effective," Zeeb said.
Looking back on the evolution in Wuhan, Professor Dean Winslow, an expert on infectious diseases, Stanford University, USA, highly appreciated people's cooperation when officials announced the epidemic.
Even so, Professor Zeeb is still cautious, saying that countries still do not understand what is happening in China, when there is a new outbreak.
According to Dr. Brewer, of the two new cases, two had traveled to another province.
"Therefore, the epidemic in China is still at risk of spreading," Brewer warned.
