The director of WHO Europe warns the region has become the center of the Covid-19 epidemic again, when it records a record 1.5 million new infections a week.
"Europe is once again becoming the heart of the Covid-19 epidemic," said World Health Organization (WHO) Europe director Hans Kluge during a meeting with health ministers in the region's member countries.
He explained that the number of new infections in the past week was 1.5 million, an unprecedented high.
Kluge said deaths in Europe rose more than 30% in the past week, as winter approaches, and hospital admissions hit their highest levels since spring.
Despite the growing number of cases, Kluge argues that a nationwide blockade should be seen as a last resort.
Several European countries such as Germany, Ireland and France have enacted blockade measures to limit the spread of COV.
