A federal court in Los Angeles on December 6 ruled that Elon Musk was not guilty of defamation after calling diver Vernon Unsworth a "pedophile".

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, was asked for at least $ 190 million in compensation from diver Vernon Unsworth. Unsworth is a member of an international team of experts who made a big contribution to the rescue campaign of the Wild Pig chasing soccer team trapped in a cave in Thailand last year. Musk referred to Unsworth as a "pedophile" on Twitter after the British diver called the mini submarine the billionaire sent to support his small team rescue campaign as a "PR trick".

Unsworth's lawyer, L. Lin Wood, criticized Musk as a "bully billionaire", saying that Musk's criticism influenced diver's relationships and career prospects.

Musk's lawyer, meanwhile, argued that the tweet was not an actual allegation but simply an attack in the heat of the moment. They prove Unsworth's reputation not seriously damaged because he was awarded medals from the King of Thailand and other honors for his efforts to rescue the team.

After the jury concluded Musk was not guilty of defamation, the billionaire said "my faith in people is restored".

The 11-16-year-olds and the coach of the Wild Pigs team were trapped in Tham Luang cave on June 23, 2018, when they came in to explore after the football practice. Heavy rains caused floodwaters to completely block the cave exit, leaving 13 people isolated for nine days before being found by an international group of divers. Dramatic rescue with the participation of experts from many countries has successfully freed the child team on July 10, 2018, in the chaos of both Thai people and international public opinion.
