A group of workers found cash worth about US $ 135,000 buried underground while demolishing a home in Queensland.
Construction contractor Jake Johnston said he and his team of workers discovered the money on October 31, while working at a construction site in the Runaway Bay area on the outskirts of Gold Coast, Queensland.
"They were buried about 0.6 meters deep, under the trees," he said, adding that they were hidden in layers of plastic containers and tightly closed so air could not enter.
After finding a plastic box, the group of workers reported it to the police. When they arrived at the scene, they found more boxes. The total value is about 200,000 AUD (135,000 USD) and has been handed over to Queensland police for forensic investigation and analysis.
These notes are believed to be denominated in 100 AUD and have stopped production in Australia since 1996. Property records show that the land was vacated in the late 1980s. At that time, a name The notorious burglar Brendan Abbott used to steal millions of dollars from banks on the Gold Coast and a portion of the money has yet to be recovered. Abbott is serving a 23-year prison sentence.
