Mexico At least 50 people have been found in a mass grave on a farm on the outskirts of Guadalajara.
The Guadalajara prosecutor's office in Jalisco state, Mexico, yesterday said it discovered the tomb three weeks ago and has so far identified 13 victims, including 12 male and one female.
The remains of these people have been given to their families. The government added that the process of identifying the remaining 37 bodies, as well as the cause of death, would continue.
On September 3, a mass grave of 34 bodies was also discovered on the outskirts of Guadalajara. Earlier in May, authorities found 30 bodies in another nearby tomb.
The government says nearly 2,500 murders have been reported in Jalisco state from January to November. This is the site of the New Generation Jalisco gang, the infamous criminal group that is growing rapidly with its financial base. Firm and well equipped.
Mexico has deployed 3,200 soldiers to Jalisco in an effort to prevent gang-related violence. Since 2006, when the government deployed troops to join the war on drugs, nearly 50,000 cases of disappearance have been recorded. Officials have discovered more than 3,000 mass graves with more than 5,000 bodies since 2006.
