China said the US deprivation of Hong Kong's special trade status violated WTO rules and did not serve Washington's interests.
At a regular press conference in Beijing today, Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng said that Hong Kong's special trade status was recognized by all members of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
"If the US disregards the basic rules of international relations and imposes unilateral measures under US law, it will violate WTO rules and it will not serve US interests," Cao Phong said.
The statement was issued by China's Commerce Ministry spokesperson after US President Donald Trump announced last week that he would revoke the trade privileges granted to Hong Kong after the Chinese parliament passed a resolution on legislation.
