United States Governor Gavin Newsom declared a statewide emergency as wildfires continued to rage in high winds.

The Kincade wildfire has spread to 12,000 hectares in California, while authorities have managed to control about 10 percent of the area, according to the US federal fire department. More than a dozen fires across the state have destroyed dozens of homes and vineyards, including the famous 150-year-old Soda Rock winery in the region.

At least two hospitals in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County over the weekend had to evacuate patients to other facilities. Millions of people face the largest outage in the state's history.

The Kincade wildfire in California erupted sharply from the middle of last week and spread rapidly due to extreme weather events, with strong winds of up to 145 km / h. "More than 3,000 people are fighting fire, ensuring the evacuation goes smoothly and people are taking it seriously," said Governor Newsom on October 27.

An estimated 180,000 people in California were forced to evacuate during the fire. "This is the biggest evacuation that any of us at the Sonoma County Police Station can remember. Take care of each other," wrote the Twitter account of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say the area remained in a red-alert danger zone until October 28 and could last until October 29.
