President Bolsonaro appointed Decotelli last week, to replace his predecessor Abraham Weintraub, who resigned in mid-June after being involved in a series of controversies, including anti-racist comments on Twitter.

Decotelli claimed he had a Master's degree in Brazil, a PhD at the University of Rosario of Argentina and a doctorate from the University of Wuppertal, Germany.

However, the rector of the University of Rosario last weekend said Decotelli had no doctorate at this school and had never defended the thesis here.

Decotelli was also accused of plagiarism from several academic lessons during his time studying in Brazil.

Since President Bolsonaro took office in January 2019, his administration has witnessed the dismissal or resignations of about a dozen ministers, due to disagreements with the President.
