Pilgrims wear masks and divide into small groups, moving to the most sacred site of Mecca after days of isolation.

The pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca this year starting from 28/7, lasting to 2/8, is one of the duties that must be performed at least once in a lifetime for Muslims.

However, instead of praying over the sea of people from all walks of life, young people pushing wheelchairs for the elderly, carrying their children to Mecca like every year, this year the believers have to relax.

Although this experience is very different, this is still an opportunity for pilgrims to shake off their past sins, strengthen their faith and complete one of the five pillars of Islam.

For the first time in nearly a century, the Saudi government banned Muslims abroad from traveling to the kingdom to make pilgrimages to stop Covid-19.

Pilgrims must be between 20 and 50 years old, without underlying medical conditions and Covid-19 symptoms.

International media are not allowed to report in Mecca.

Believers can only drink water from the Zamzam well in pre-packed plastic bottles.

Pilgrims are also given separate prayer mats and special clothing to wear throughout the hajj treated with silver nanotechnology, which Saudi authorities say will help kill bacteria and waterproof clothing.

While on pilgrimage, women must not wear makeup, wear perfume, wear loose clothing and cover their heads.
