South Korea recorded 87 more people infected with nCoV, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 433.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) announced 142 new cases this morning. With 87 more cases updated this afternoon, the total number of new cases recorded today is 229.
Of the 229 new cases, 95 cases were related to Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, North Gyeongsang Province, where the first nCoV death in South Korea was a 63-year-old man, KCDC said. Yesterday, another patient died in a hospital in Busan after being transferred from Daenam hospital.
Among the new cases, 62 cases were related to the Shincheonji sect. A 61-year-old female devotee, known as "patient 31", is believed to have spread the virus to others attending religious services at a church in Daegu.
A total of 114 cases, including 9 medical staff and 102 patients, were recorded at Daenam Hospital. This facility is cordoned off to prevent the virus from spreading. A total of 231 patients were involved in Tan Thien Dia's ceremonies in Daegu. KCDC said it has requested 9,336 Tan Thien Dia members to isolate themselves. Of those, 544 are suspected to be tested.
In addition to North Gyeongsang and Daegu, South Korea also detected cases in other provinces such as Jeju, Chungcheong, North Jeolla and Gyeonggi. 4 cases were detected in Busan, the second largest city in Korea with 3.4 million people. Samsung Electronics today said it discovered an employee infected with nCoV at a mobile device factory complex in Gumi, a city in southeastern South Korea. Samsung is expected to close the entire facility until February 24 morning.
Samsung Electronics, the world's leading smartphone maker, said it plans to close the complex until the morning of February 24.
Most nCoV-infected patients are in stable condition, but about 9 have underlying medical conditions that are relatively critical. 18 people infected with nCoV recovered.
