About 1,000 people were not allowed to leave the H10 Adeje Palace Hotel on the Canary Islands after an Italian citizen who had been confirmed to be infected with corona virus.
The press office of the town of Adeje on the Canary Islands, Spain, today announced that the H10 Adeje Palace Hotel has been blocked. Italian doctors infected with nCoV are being quarantined at a clinic on the island of Tenerife, also in the Canary Islands.
Local health authorities said the doctor was from northern Italy, where hundreds of people had been infected with nCoV. Patients volunteered to the clinic on 24/2 due to feeling unwell, Spanish news agency Europa Press reported.
This is the third nCoV infection to be detected in Spain and the second on the Canary Islands, a popular holiday destination that attracts European visitors year-round. Earlier this month, a German tourist was isolated here, then left the island when he recovered and no symptoms.
The Spanish government today convenes a special committee of officials from many ministries, and holds private meetings with health officials to assess the ability to cope with an increase in nCoV infections.
Italy currently records 229 cases of nCoV infection and 7 deaths. Lombardy region in northern Italy accounted for the majority of cases with 172 cases, of which 5 died. At least 10 Italian towns, with about 50,000 people, have been frozen since February 23 to prevent the virus from spreading.
